I recall reading something that the two terms ( Liberal and Conservative ) were switched with their meanings, along with the representing color in the mid 20th century just so the left-wing can make themselves look good. I guess today's "Conservatives" think we're not smart enough to find the irony between their title and their beliefs.
Yes, libs dominate psychology and have used it and language to twist things. Our founding fathers were classic liberals (stodgy conservs by today's standards) while radical libs are now progressives. Illegal aliens are undocumented workers (worker- as socialist term) Don't get me started on the "right" and "fascism."
America started out as a democracy right? So technically the party that's called the "Democratic Party" should be more conservative in that aspect. So, what kind of democracy is the best democracy? Has our country always been a representative democracy?
Oh, yeah, that's what I was thinking. The proper term is a representative republic, which is similar enough to democracy and has checks and balances. That's what the phrase Republican means. It was a word (the "r" not capitalized at the time) marked with enthusiastic awe at America's founding.
